An Enjoyable Project

A new project with Malabrigo yarn.  A different color
combination this time.

Circular needles are my preferred knitting tools,
and this "smoke ring" scarf will be an enjoyable project.

Meanwhile, snow has been falling all day.
 Is this winter's last stand?

Scented Violets

Tiny scented violets that can fill a room with
their fragrance.

What's in Bloom?

The answer is, not much.  Not in my yard.  Crocus and
snowdrops are in bloom, but weren't very photogenic today.

Pulmonaria 'Pink Haze' is in bloom.  The cool pink
and icey blue shades don't look out of place in the winter.

Be Thou My Vision

Butchart Gardens, Victoria, B.C. Canada

Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light
.

Ancient Irish hymn, possibly from the 8th Century, tr. by Mary E. Byrne

Favorites

Some of my favorites at today's dog show.

Wire-haired dachshund.

Norwich Terrier.

 Jack Russell Terrier.

Appropriate attire for showing a Scottish Deerhound.

I would like one of each of these dogs.  But in reality I am
a cat person!

Pink Primroses

Simple party decorations.  Six pots of pink primroses
placed in a vintage cutlery tray.

A sweet, subtle fragrance.

Hardanger lace is so pretty without being fragile.

It Popped!

The Cornelian Cherry Tree has popped.

The soothing sound of buzzing bees fills the air.

Yellow flowers against the blue sky, beautiful.

Time For a Change

Time to change the front door wreath
for something "springy".

Silk Forsythia branches will do quite nicely.

Tulips at Butchart Gardens

I know it's too early to see tulips blooming in my garden zone,
but I am cheered by these photos taken in May at Butchart Gardens,
Victoria, B.C., Canada.

Creamy yellow tulips and Forget-Me-Nots.
I like the combination

Tulips and Bergenia.  Why not?

The sunlight shining through this color combination.
Beautiful!

A sea of tulips.

White tulips outlining a manicured lawn, so elegant.

You Are My All In All

Juneau, Alaska

Beautiful Hellebores

Hellebores floating in a bowl.  Photo taken 1 year ago today, at
Northwest Garden Nursery in Eugene, Oregon during their annual
open house.  They are open next weekend, too.

Winter Color

This Witch hazel (probably Hamamelis mollis), is a little
past its prime, but still has an interesting frangance and adds a lot
of color to the February landscape.

The flowers remind me of dried-up potato shreds.

I don't think the shape is very graceful, and probably would not
make room for this shrub in my yard.

It's About Time

Yep, it's about time to pick these branches.

And turn them into a new wreath like this old one.

My Favorite Yarn

Malabrigo "Rios" is a beautiful yarn.  Lovely soft texture
 in the most gorgeous colorways.

Even a beginner knitter like me, can make something
special with this yarn.

A Shelter in the Time of Storm

North Shore, Kauai

The Lord’s our Rock, in Him we hide,
A Shelter in the time of storm;
Secure whatever ill betide,
A Shelter in the time of storm.
